NATIONAL CERTIFICATION AND STATE REQUIREMENTS The graduate dental assisting student may apply for Certification by the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB). This is a voluntary certification but is often a requirement for employment by individual dentists. The Certification Examination is given on campus each June for Gulf Coast Community College graduates. Certification is renewed each year through a process of continuing education. Graduates are also certified in the Florida Expanded Functions and in Dental Radiography. These are intraoral tasks delegated by a dentist to formally trained dental assistants who have demonstrated clinical competency by passing examinations and by performing a required number of procedures on patients.
